The awards were presented by the Association of Social Responsibility on Thursday 30 May 2019 at a ceremonial gala evening in the Czernin Palace in Prague, seat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The third annual prestigious competition was an inspiring occasion featuring exceptional ideas with a unique impact on various fields, which contribute to changing the world for the better. The winner of the 213 projects submitted was chosen by a professional panel. In the Business and Public Sphere categories, the best projects were selected based on the 3,782 votes cast by the public on the website www.globalnicile.cz.

“SDGs have an important place in our foreign policy, which is traditionally based on the values of humanitarianism, democracy and human rights. The Sustainable Development Goals represent an image of the world we are striving to achieve,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Tomáš Petříček, whose department was the partner of the SDG Awards 2019, together with the Ministry for Regional Development of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic, and the Czech Development Agency. The business partner of this year’s competition was once again the Unilever company. The media partners were Forbes Czech Republic and the Czech News Agency.

The SDG Awards 2019 gala evening, which was designed as a sustainable event, was presented by the moderator, actor and SDG ambassador Lukáš Hejlík. During the course of the evening the audience was treated to performances of original compositions by Tomáš Kačo from his album My Home. Tomáš Kačo is a renowned self-taught pianist and composer, who established himself among the best jazz students at the prestigious Berklee College in Boston and has subsequently sold out the Carnegie Hall in New York.

The sustainable winners’ trophies were produced by the Conscious & Craft studio. From an international library of innovative materials, we chose seven materials for the future. The individual trophies were produced using, for example, construction material, rice hulls, recycled textiles or experimental raw materials from eggshells. In addition to the trophies, the winners received traditional medals made of concrete in the shape of SDGs, again produced by Gravelli.

This year’s new feature was the Gender Equality award. This section opened the evening’s proceedings

with a keynote speech by Majken Gilmartin, the co-founder of the international women’s football tournament Global Goals World Cup, which the Association of Social Responsibility hosted for the first time in the Czech Republic in 2019. The final took place on Wenceslas Square in Prague, one day before the ceremonial presentation of the SDGs Awards 2019, on Wednesday 29 May.
